What's the cubic interpolation in multigrid method?

What's the cubic interpolation in multigrid method?
Is it the same thing as cubic spline interpolation? I have found many books, but they just give a one dimensional formula and the explanations are unclear.

My grid is two dimensional. Then, what's the cubic interpolation?
