Hello,

I am new to CFD and am wondering what would be the best way and best tool to solve the problem stated below.

I have a three dimensional CAD model of a turbomachine and the purpose is to calculate aerodynamic forces acting on the machine parts. What makes the turbomachine interesting is that the motion is not purely rotational. Basically, in two dimensions the task is to calculate aerodynamic forces on an object moving periodically on a fairly complex (noncircular, nonlinear) trajectory in an uniform flow field. In the CAD program it is easy to visualize the motion and make animations of the machine. The basic question is that can this nonlinear and noncircular motion be transferred into the software used for the aerodynamical analysis of the machine. Is this possible at all?

I have access to Ansys, OpenFOAM and Elmer software packages and lots of processing power. I know this probably is a nontrivial problem for a novice, but It's an educational project and before beginning to study it further I'd like to know whether it's doable at all.

Thanks

Hi dear

you don't need to have a file that can animate moving or circulating of a body to can analis it.i mean that you must

first draw the map of the body then use some software for analisys of it like fluent or ansys.

2nd) you must export your map of the body to the proper software.

3th) you must genarate SUITABLE mesh for the map.

4) movemnet or rotating and anothe conditions modeled trough imposing boundary condition not trough a file that can show the rotating.

Thanks for the reply, mazdak.

So it is possible to impose boundary conditions in such a manner that arbitrary movement of the body is possible? I think that at least rotation is possible, but the motion is not rotational in this case.

i sure that you can model the rotation.if you search in google.com phrases like:

" impeller simulation "

and etc. you can find more things but based on flow properties that is turbulent or laminar achieving good results become hard.

so Before doing this project you must have
Knowledge about cfd.

be in success
