I'm evaluating CFD software for Solid Edge and was wondering if there's anyone out there with recommendations. I've evaluated EFD Lab and like it, but it is does not have a Solid Edge interface. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, Solid Edge can convert the solid model into a number of formats, say, for examples, parasolid and step which can easily import to CFD softwares. I am using ANSYS flotran and flotherm.

Best regards, Adam

I use CFDesign with SolidWorks. Since CFDesign uses parasolids to communicate geometry there will be little difference in working with the two different CAD systems. User interface is OK. Some limitations. I particularly like being able to run in batch mode with the interface turned off. This is important for large jobs that use all available RAM or when you want to run the CFD job in the background while modeling.

We use Solid Edge company wide and I personally use it for turbomachinery components. I use NUMECA's FINE/Turbo for CFD. Although this is an outstanding code for turbomachinery blade row applications, it is quite cumbersome and unwieldy for any other component I try to simulate from a Solid Edge 3D model. Actually, it does not accept the native part file - must always convert to some other format.

I will preface this by stating that I work for a company that sells ANSYS products.

But ANSYS has a few different offerings in regards to CFD, specifically FLOTRAN and CFX. It really depends on the types of problems you plan to model. All of the products interface with Solid Edge. There is a direct interface available as well as a connection via Parasolid.

Depending on where you are located, I can put you in touch with the apprpriate people for more information. I will leave that up to you.

Regards,

Derrek
