Hi

Your question is ...what can I say/write. If your Master (with 2nd rank or whatever) couldn't put you in the front line of research it is really bad. It is not your problem, it is about University systems, given short courses packging them into so called Master degrees. Did you learn in your thesis? How long does it took? Any way, you are now in this position and you're trying to do your best.

I hope other people read this. just to get informed about that situation. Your situation is not unique. I suggest to take some experience outside your university. I did it. I took an airplane and learned in some other place, putting my self in the front line of research in the subject I wanted to.

Sugggestions: - Take courses on pure, applied & nuemrical math - Take a research work outside your department/university where you learn (if you pay your accomodation, etc people are always willng to accept external self-funded students/researchers)
