Please can help me. I read a lot about cauchy and there is much written about it but i still dont no what cauchy problem exactly is?

What is cauchy problem and how does it fit in CFD?

Cauchy Problem is: u_t+f(u)_x=0 or =g(x,t) u(x,0)=\fi(x) -\infty<x<+\infty
