FEM (LSFEM vs GLS FEM vs Penalty) for Stokes equ.

Hi guru's i write my master thesis and want to implement a good, stable, easy to implement and so on... algorithm to built up the element matrix for the Stokes-equation. i just want the best available :)

In the literature i found a lot of different schemes such as least-squares FEM, Galerkin least-squares, penalty ... until now i would prefer LSFEM.

is there anybody out there who knows where each schemes has its advantages/disadvantages.

and/or know some paper in which these different method are compared. (especially i am ínterested in papers which compares LSFEM with GLS FEM)

thanks in advance Gerhard

Hi Gerhard,

If you want more info on LSFEM, try contact Prof. Surana of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kansas. He is the ultimate GURU on LSFEM.

Have you ever tried control-volume finite element methods? You use unit-step functions as weights, and the domain of each weighting function determines a control volume around each node of the element. It's used to ensure mass conservation around each node.
