VKI Turbine Cascade

Hi,

Has anyone got the VKI turbine cascade geometry. Also I will need experimental data it available for validation. I am planning to test different turbulence models.

Thanks

------------------

Experimental data for validation - test different turbulence models??? Well, same mistakes/errors over and over for decades. How many emphirical parameters are there in your turbulence models? Think like that. Each different emphirical parameter in a turbulent motion will take you in another direction; one to the Mars the another to the Moon. But your flow is on the Earth. Put all of your those turbulent models and all other turbulent models of people in the world into a big pot and stir it like stirring the soup. Then, at the end of all these mind studies, you'll reach your real true target which is actually the SOUP.

may be this belongs in the philosophy of engineering discussion group... anyway...

yes,

1. you cannot extract additional physics out of the turbulence model that you put in.

2. after you have fine tuned the model to match one case, then running another cascade of a very similar design may assure you some success... but do not expect to have the same level of sucess if you run another problem

3. I do think that CFD is very useful in extracting trends, to learn about sensitivities of the problem to various prameters. But if the aim is to match exactly what a particular experiment said it had observed and stop there, then I am not sure how technology has advanced.

If you send me an e-mail I can provide you the coordinates and experimental data of the VKI LS-89 airfoil.

Best regards,

Guillermo

Guillermo is now at Purdue and no longer at VKI and has been for awhile. He also wrote on a guest account and won't see your message. Best to email him directly or the VKI folks.
