cfd free/shareware
i'm a grad student in aerospace engineering. i was wondering if anyone knows of any well developed free/shareware cfd codes i can use for 2d/3d euler or navier stokes examples to give me more experience working with cfd. i have taken many theory classes but i don't have enough experience actually working with codes. i would prefer something written in C/C++ or gui based executable that i can run on mac, pc, ibm, rs6000 or sgi workstation

CHAM offers a shareware version of Phoenics, Innovative Research has a downloadable demo of their 2D product, and a South African company has a demo for their product Flo++. These all run on PC and have a GUI. There's also a free package called MOUSE for Unix, which I haven't used.

The U.S. Air Force has a "free" CFD code called Cobalt that might be useful for you. It's an unstructured Euler/NS solver, and even though it doesn't have a GUI it is very easy to use. There is a Cobalt homepage if you are interested. Cobalt is export controlled so they will only give it out to US citizens. You just need to fax a form (available on the webpage) back to them and they will give you access to the source code on their ftp site. Jeff Hank |

We have developed a library for finite volume computations, named MOUSE. This library is written in C++. It is still restricted to 2D, but we plan to expand it soon. One of the purposes of MOUSE is to provide a basis for further developments. If you are interested, please look at

You could also look at the following web site: http://www.arnold.af.mil/nparc/ They offer a pre-processor, solver and post-processor.
The software i called WIND and it is export controled. So you need to be a US citizen or attending a University. The information is all on thier website. |

A question about linearization of radiative energy source term ? So that it can be used in a CFD code.
