Anybody has CFD codes used Discrete Vortex Method

I'm trying to simulate the shear/mixing layer between submerged waterjet and surrounding water. DVM is better than FVM or FEM in this case. Anybody has the DVM codes that I can work on? I can pay for them or exchange with some other codes. Thanks.

You can try to contact somebody in Institute of Mechanics of Moscow State University, Russia - they have an experience in solving such problems with DVM. The problem is that their web site www.imec.msu.ru is in Russian only, but you can e-mail vice-director Dr. Guvernuk: guv@imec.msu.ru

Are you interested in 2d or 3d jet flow, and what is the Reynolds number of your interest?

To Adrin Gharakhani, thanks for your interest in this topic.

Actually, I have been trying to simulate the structure of free shear layer/ mixing layer between the submerged water jet(round jet) and the sourrounding water. So far, none of the commonly-used comercial CFD codes can precisely simulate the shear layer, especially the free shear layer.

According to some literature and analyses, Discrete Vortex Method would be the best in this case except for the Direct numerical simulation.

So, I can simplify my case into a 2d one, to get the transient behavior of the shear layer, especially the velocity and pressure contours, because my essential interest is in the cavitation in the shear layer, usually referred to as vortex cavitation.

We might be able to help you with the problem. Please email me so that we can discuss the flow details, etc. I tried emailing you but it bounced back (so please make sure you use the correct return email if you decide to contact me)

Hi, Luckj

Maybe you can find something useful at www.iihr.uiowa.edu/products/fluid_mechanics/iif/code.html
