I am trying to simulate a sudden contraction laminar internal flow. Re around 150. How do i decide the mesh? mainly the first layer thickness.

Since its an internal flow and after it becomes fully developed, the entire pipe will contain boundary layers.. Hence is it necessary that i try to maximimze the prisim layer thickness in my pipe?

Any advice will be helpfull.

Hi Varoon

You need to resolve the velocity boundary layer and thermal boundary layer properly to predict the flow. This can be done only by trail and error basis. Create coarse mesh and keep on refining until you get both thermal and velocity boundary layer properly.

Thanks
