transonic airfoil optimization

Hi i have to optimize an airfoil in transonic regime.
is there any limitation to do that? somebody told me it is impossible to optimize the airfoil for mach more than 8.5 and AoA more than 2.5
is it true? if yes,why?

I see no reason why it is not possible.
