Non-conformal grid accuracy

Hi everyone,

Can you all shed some light on the accuracy of simulation results obtained from meshes having non-conformal interface in between for the different CFD packages (FLUENT, CFX, OpenFOAM, etc.)?

What are the best practices followed in the industry in this regard; eg., mesh density on the two surfaces sharing the interface, interpolation schemes accuracy/stability?

How much significant are the interpolation inaccuracies when dealing with hex-core meshes which do generate hanging node meshes?

Thanks,
Sam
