Default Turbulent concentric annulus

Hi all,

I've done some (Fluent) simulations of turbulent flow of a Newtonian fluid in a concentric annulus. I want to compare the results in terms of velocity distribution with explicit analytical predictions. I know there are numerous analytic expressions for the calculation of laminar flow velocity distribution in concentric annuli, but does anyone know if there are equivalent equations for turbulent flow? My search so far has come up with nothing; the subject seems to be avoided in an explicit analytical sense.

Yours in hope!

Hi Jons, I do not think there are any analytical solutions for your problem (but am not 100% sure on that matter). Usually, analytical solutions are found for simple 1D problem (or problems that can be expessed in 1D by a change of variable). By definition, turbulent problems are 3D and time dependent. I think the best you can do, is try to find experimental data or correlations in the litterature. Have you tried the ercoftac site (http://imhefwww.epfl.ch/lmf/ERCOFTAC/)?

There's no flow in annuli on ercoftac site, but I have uncovered something in 'Transport Phenomena' (2nd ed.) by Bird, Stewart and Lightfoot
