two-point turbulence closures

Can anyone explain what are two-point turbulence closures and their difference with one-point closures? Why they are called so? Their range of applications, complexities and benefits over one-point ones?

Hi there,
Two-point correlation make use of correlation between the point in question and the influence from other points in the fluid. A teoretical book on turbulence modelling will give you more than sufficient information on this. I'm not familiar with anyone using two-point models. They are tremendously cpu-demanding as each point in the fluid need to be correlated with every else point (a so called N^2 problem), for each time (iteration) instance. Standard turbulence equation (k-eps, Reynolds stress etc.) are all one-point closures. The idea of using transport equations, which make them non-local due to the history effect, is however not related to the two-point closures. Regards Jonas |
