Free Surface Code Validation

What validation test would you suggest for free surface (without internal boundaries) code testing?

I am interested both: in simple cases with analytical solution available and in experimental/numerical results of recent/non recent works.

Best, Maciek

Re: Free Surface Code Validation

Prove with some analytical solution (if exist), or with Continuity or any global integral law validation of your numeric dates.

Re: Free Surface Code Validation

I validated my free surface results in a rotating bucket where the anayltical solution is available. You can find the analytial solution in the book 'transport phenomena' and the author is Bird.

Re: Free Surface Code Validation

Would you like to suggest any existing case which has existing analytical solution?

Best,

Re: Free Surface Code Validation

I don't have that book, but will try to find that case somwhere else. Thank you for pointing it to me,

Best,

Re: Free Surface Code Validation

First of all we have to know what are you solving.

Re: Free Surface Code Validation

Incompressible free surface on staggered grid with SIMPLE method for NS solution and markers for fluid (surface) tracking. Is that enough? There is no need to give you an information about what I am solving actually, since the code I am developming is general, not for solution to one specificc problem.

Is that enough?

Re: Free Surface Code Validation

Well, if you don't especify any particular flow, analytical solutions are available for the round jet (Schlichting) and boundary layer (Blasius) flow. But those are for pressure gradient zero. All of them are self-similar solutions.

The following paper also uses rotating bucket as the testing case and the analytical solution in listed in this paper.

@article{Cairncross2000,

of Incompressible Fluids in Three Dimensions.
