Two questions:
1. What is the best manual book for FORTRAN 77 and FORTRAN 90, two separate books not a general manual book on FORTRAN? 2. What are the most important advntages of F90? What things F77 can't handle that F90 can? Thanks. |

Introduction to FORTRAN 90 for Engineers and Scientists
Larry R. Nyhoff, Sanford Leestma ISBN: 0135052157 The book on F77 by the same authors is also excellent. |

In my experience, Fortran90 deals with arrays much better than Fortran77.

try "Introduction to Fortran 90/95' - Chapman. Great book for fortran 90 intro. if you are looking for a reference then try " Handbook of Fortran 90/95" - Chapman. great reference.

F90 handles dynamic memory allocation. It also has much better array handling functionality. Modularity is easier to maintain with the ability to define internal and external procedures. There are quite a few additional features that make coding in F90 much easier than in F77.

If you use Unix platform, then I think the best compiler would be Intel Fortran Compier (IFC). It can be used for both Fortran 77 and 90 and creates a very robust executable file.
