Hi, I came across X-flow cfd , a new mesh less, particle based , new fully lagrangian approach to fluid simulation ( link below)

I want to know how it compares to a mesh based software like say CFX or Fluent? Capability, suitability and accuracy?

Hi Harsh,
We have evaluated XFlow 2011 in our company for several weeks and are quite satisfied with the results.
We are simulating airflow around civil structures. The software is easy and intuitive to use, results are reasonable and it has nice postprocessing capabilities. The main pro is that the meshing process is avoided, saving a lot of time. Main cons so far are that it only runs under Windows 64 OS, and analysis must be transient.

Hi,
Xflow is very easy to use. a little bit less accurate then CFD based Navier-Stockes-Equation (like CFX, Fluent, StarCD, ...) but more flexible. very good for complex geometry and moving parts. Xflow use the Lattice Boltzmann method and Lattice Gas Automata Mesh-less approach. Work only on 64-Bit OS and Only transient calculation can be made.

It looks like their version 2012 of XFlow includes now a Linux version, according to the hardware requirements page: http://www.xflowcfd.com/index.php/pr...w/requirements

Concerning accuracy, it doesn't look bad at all if checking their white papers posted, e.g.: http://www.xflowcfd.com/pdf/Paper03-...Prediction.pdf.

I read lattice-Boltzmann was fast for transient simulations. The pseudo-steady state of transient simulations can usually be checked by different parameters depending on your application, e.g. convergence of the forces in aerodynamics. This isn't very different from looking at a residual curve to go down.

I would give it a try.

Default importing adams motions to xflow

Hi
i start to learn xflow. i have worked a lot with adams but now i need to study motion of a body in a 3d domain of a fluide. i want to simulate a motion in adams and then transfer it to xflow. in adams i first simulate motion then exported my body in step format and then export results file . in xflow i import step and results files. i saw my model shape and its motion but when i run xflow i can't see any interaction between body and fluide. also py diagram in function viewer remain zero but my shape move! note that after importing body , xflow knows it as a enforced geometry.
i do not know what should do to perform a correct importing from adams to xflow can any body help me to do that

i worked a lot with xflow but at last i cant give suitable answers from it i am professional in adams and i wanted to combined xflow and adams but i couldn't i have bellow problems with xflow can you help me to solve them

1- when i import a adams model into xflow it converts it to an in-force body and when i run a simulation, motion of the body doesn't have any affect on fluid. then how can i do this import well? do you know?

2- in free surface simulation :

when i give a motion to the water container xflow can't simulate water motions (for example can you simulate a falling bottle or a moving container?

when i want to import a fuel tank model from solid work (it contains internal baffles and walls) xflow stops and show an error associate with its 3dengine)

3- i cant obtain a correct answers in supper sonic problems especially in zero degree pitch angles

Hi j_smith, sana and others

Is there any possibility to someone to put out there a X-flow project, available as an example, to see how it works?, since I do have access to a X-Flow for few days and I want to see how it works. Unfortunately, no time to create an entire new project from scratch. It doesn't matter how simple the X-flow project is, it is just to see how X-flow works.

PS: It is strange that there is NO single example with that X-flow code.
