I am interested in the subject too, but I have not found the papers about coupled computational solution for fluid flow and local population balance equation of droplet diameter distribution. Concerning liquid draplet diameres in stirred bessel, which I want to know, zone or compartment models are mainly used. In my opinion, whether further model taking into account local turbulence level(ex. epsilon) or viscous shear stress by CFD is necessary or not depends on characteristic time for coalessence and breakage of particles. sugiyama, k.
