Hi,
I'm looking to publish some computational simulation work: it is application oriented, based on real world engineering, and uses a commercial code. Could anyone recommend a suitable journal? I could eliminate several (JFM, Phys. of Fluids, JCP). How is the ASME's Journal of Fluid's engineering? |

Why have you eliminated some of the journals?

I just think that JFM, JCP and Physics of Fluids are less likely to accept publications on work that uses commercial code. Is this reasonable to assume? Or am I wrong?

Depends on the focus of the paper. JCP usually accepts papers on methodology development, but you can verify that JFM and Phys. Fluids focus mostly on the physics of the flow (though I've seen papers with methodology flavor in JFM, but more analytical than numerical).
If you plan on running a code and showing some color plots without discussing a serious physical phenomenon (that is still not understood well), then your conclusion is absolutely correct - it will be rejected. For such work it is better to present at a conference, although ASME-JFE may accept the paper version. Adrin Gharakhani |

And most code vendors have their own journals, usually they are happy to publish such user articles "showing color plots"

I think you are correct not to submit to the journals you name which are orientated towards fundamental research. Journals in the field of your application are likely to be more receptive. If you can describe your paper in about a paragraph I would suggest ringing/emailing the editor and asking his/her opinion. They may say no but are likely to offer suggestions.

I suggest "Progress in Computational Fluid Dynamics" (PCFD) Website: http://www.inderscience.com/browse/i...p?journalID=23
