Midas - CFD

Hello,
I'm bridge engineer, I'm working in design team of a cable-stayed bridge. Its main span is 300m. I use MIDAS/FEA for calculate the aerodynamic of the bridge cross section.
I have a question, is there any one use MIDAS/FEA CFD for calculate these aerodynamic coefficients like me. And Please share some experiences with me.
Thank you very much.

Midas nfx-cfd

Hi,

I have some experience with MIDAS NFX-CFD solver. However, I don't use MIDAS pre/post.
Is that the solver you are using?

Best regards,

Julio García

Hi,
I wonder if there is some miss-understand. I do not know about "MIDAS NFX-CFD". I'm talking about the family software from Korea, that's MIDAS. You can find more information from midasuser.com
I know there are many solver in CFD like Fluent, Ansys/CFX, Open-Foam.
But as bridge engineer, We like some easy understanding software like Midas.

And Bentley - RM have also CFD module for Bridge.
In bridge engineer, we must take care in Buffecting, Galloping and Flutter Analysis.

I'm bridge engineer but very new in CFD so I hope to find more usefull information here.

Best Regards,
Ngay xuan

Introducing to Midas NFX-CFD

Dear Ngay xuan

I'm Junho Lee, mechanical CAE development team member at Midas IT which has been developing MIDAS program including MIDAS-FEA.

As you know, The MIDAS program is easy to model and famous for its reliable accuracy.
Midas IT released last year its mechnical CAE program, midas NFX, which has CFD analysis capability by integrated with TDyn solver.
Please e-mail me(leejh1@midasit.com), if you are interested in Midas IT's CFD program.

Best regards,
Junho Lee

Dear ngoc,
There are misunderstandings.
midas FEA is enough to analyze your civil engineeering problem
in cosideration of Drag Coefficient(CFD).
Our excellent FEA technical support team
will reply to your question ASAP.
Best regards,
Junho Lee

NFX Product

Hello!

I would like to ask about NFX product. I've got little experience in Nastran FX and yestrday I saw midas NFX product. What the difference between theese two solutions? Nastran FX does not include CFD module... Can we add this module into Nastran FX? Has midas NFX the same solver as Nastran FX?

Dear Ganter

Nastran FX and midas NFX are virtually identical
for their users to execute mechanical problem.

However, the most practical and accurate CFD solver (TDYN)
integrated into not Nastran FX but midas NFX.

Therefore, If you have a CFD issue, you should consider midas NFX
because only midas NFX can calculate CFD problems.

Best regards,
Junho Lee

Dear Ngoc,

I confirm what Junho is saying about Nastran FX and midas NFX. Another thing to add is that midas NFX and Nastran FX have different solvers. Nastran FX solvers are developped by Nei Nastran and midas NFX Solvers are developped by midas.

in midas NFX, you have also more analysis types. you have complete CFD Analysis features (static/transient flow, moving mesh, chemical species concentration, free surface,...) and the solver used for CFD is from a spanish company called TDyn.
For structural analysis, you have also more analysis types than Nastran FX, you have for example Nonlinear Explicit Analysis.

hello,
thank you for information!
I belive that Midas/FEA is good for flutter analysis! the problems is just I have not much experience and chance to understand deeply about it!
maybe I will upload some modelings here and we will talk about them.
Thanks and best regard!

Midas NFX

My Name is Abdul Aziz form Universitas Indonesia. I am study about offshore structure, that always impacted by wave force, current force, and wind force. I know Midas is very simple than the other software, and fortunately my college department from civil enggineering (universitas indonesia) have the web license for activation the software.

My problem is :
I want to modeling Hydrodynamic model (Morison Element) and structure model (shell element). hydrodynamic model is consist of inertia force and drag force, and the structure that i want to modeling is a heave plate structure with the stiffener, girder, and bracing in the plate. the heave plate is midsection part from Truss Spar platform (oil-gas production unit in deep water).
Can midas NFX modeling the hydrodynamic force (Morison element, inertia and drag force) to the plate structure with frequency domain analysis? then analyze the load case, stress, and displacement that occurs in these structures? Thanks a lot for the answer.
