Fortran .ice. operator

Hi all,

I am using a Fortran code written by someone else, and came accross a piculiar operator: "ice". This is how it is used:

if (material .ice. strings(i)) then ...

both "material" and "strings" are charactor strings. I have looked in all my reference books, with no luck.

The only other thing to mention, is that the code was written by a german. Are there german operators, that do the same job as the more familiar english ones?

Anyway, any guesses are much appriciated.

I appologise in advance if I have posted in a wrong forum :o

Thanks,
Natalya
