Ceiling fan in my house are LOUD... i was thinking can't normal ceiling fan or simple fan be quiter when they run or is it impossible because moving air will always make sound?
Undergrad here... these loud fans are really annoying.. i just want to make something which simply blows air! |

there.even if they are a bit expensive. here is described how they work. http://www.dyson.co.uk/technology/airmultiplier.asp if you go in the developement there is a cfd image of the cross section wich explain clearly the principle. |

thanks.... i was thnkiing like adding something around the fan which would magically dampen the sound..
dyson fans are pretty neat but they will still make the chop chop sound when taking in the air... but...they did say using same technology used in turbocharger.. which must mean using turbine shape blades in it... |

try putting an honeycomb shaped grill downwind, it won't make it silent but at least you should be able to break down the largest vortexes and shift the sound to higher frequencies, wich might be less annoying. or if you are really into diy, try adding more blades.

just had a random thought..if its possible to get output of 14xair from 1 air input..will it possible to reverse it capture 14xair energy into 1xair to power a wind turbine? like reverse a dyson to make it a wind turbine.... patented
