Default Preconditioning & eigenvalues

I'm trying to apply the preconditioning method in Choi & Merkles's AIAA 84-1638 paper to my 2-D implicit code. I'm having trouble trying to calculate the eigenvalues of the modified (preconditioned) system. I've used Matlab to calculate them, but the computer just yields a huge amount of variables. Is there a fast way to obtain the eigenvalues that you may know? Is it usually done by hand? I shall very much appreciate your help.
