Hi all,

I could really do with some help here, I am working on a masters dissertation to study windflow over a motorcycle and rider. I am particularly interested in a particular adventure motorcycle (BMW F800gs). I could not find a detailed model of this motorcycle online so I bought a very detailed 1:10 scale model with the intention of scanning it. We have a faro laser scanning arm at my uni and I have got some very good scans of the various parts.

My problem is that the parts start as point cloud data which are then converted to a polygon mesh (about 500000 faces) and I have been relatively unsuccessful at geting surfaces (nurbs or parametric) from the polygon information.

My question is - is there a way to create a CFD surface mesh directly from the polygon mesh? possibly using ICEM?

Example of polygon mesh:

Thanks in advance

What file format is the current mesh in?

Hi rwryne - the polygon mesh can be exported in a few formats from geomagic or rapidform (two reverse engineering packages I am using) but I am using .stl

I will post a screen shot of the export file types of both packages

Thanks

If the file format is STL, you should be able to import it into ICEM directly and then mesh it. It may be difficult depending on how the geometry is when imported.
