wing boundary condition
Hi All
I am modeling a wing for simulating in fluent i have two questions? 1: Whole wing must be located in a meshed volume or not? I mean wing tip and wing root should be boundary faces or they are located in a bigger meshed volume 2: if wing tip and root must be boundary faces which boundary condition is most appropriate for them? thanks |
wing surface, including tip should be no-slip. As for root, usually people attach a half of fuselage to it and put symmetry bc on the symmetry plane: for simplicity you could put symmetry bc in the root plane if you do not have fuselage.

dear truffaldino
Thanks for yout quick reply if i choose the symmetry boundary condition for root... Are the cl and cd for 1 wing or for two wings.. I mean i have to consider half of them for my wing??? |
For 1 wing sure.

I mean the following: if you simulate only half of wing (i.e. one wing with symmetry bc at root), your reference must be planform area of that half. Than cl and cd will be the same as those of the whole wing with twice bigger reference area. So, if you are using FLUENT with symmetry bc at the root plane, set the reference area as area of planform of that single wing and you will get proper cl and cd. Truffaldino |
