Default tetra or quad meshing ?
Posts: n/a
Hi all

IŽd like to figure out what are the main differencies between meshing using quads or triangles (in 2D) / tetrahedres (in 3D), for airfoils.

How my choice would influence my results ? CPU time, quality, boundary layer computations...Can anybody please give me some explainations ?

In 2D, quads generally give superior results. In 3D, hex bricks are generally also superior.

Many folks may differ on this, but it has been my experience that quads create less numerical instability & false effects. Triangles can initiate some very odd non-physical effects. It all obviously depends on what solver you are using. I have seen a lot of tet meshes in Fluent, & bricks in Star-CD.
