Finite Volume Method

i dont know if i am posting the thread at the right place or not but please try to tolerate me, i am learning Finite Volume Method these days and my advisor has given an assignment about the "Problems and Limitations of Finite Difference Method" which led to the development of Finite Volume Method in CFD??? kindly point out those problems and limitations?
thanks in advance

Hello seeker,
a few come to mind:
a) conservation NOT guaranteed on all grids, since not the integral equations are solved, but the differential one
b) accuracy issues on stretched grids
c) (there might be FD on unstructured grids possible, but I don't think it has been done successfully): The need for structured grids....this is the major disadvantage!
d) (Im not too sure about this one:) I think high order boundary conditions are rather difficult in FD.

hope this helps!

thanx cfdnewbie for replying, para no.4 is the one which i was looking for, actually someone pointed out this limitation of Finite Difference Method that there are some problems in implementation of Boundary Conditions in Finite Difference Method but that guy didnt know the details, so i kindly request you to explain para no.4 in detail or kindly refer me some text from where i can clarify this. thanks a lot
