Split streamline detection

Hi,
I'm currently working on a problem where I want to identify and characterise the presence of split-injection/ejection streamlines. I'm processing the velocity field from my simulations in matlab, and want to find the angle that this streamline split occurs, represented by the dotted line in the image below.

I'm trying to write some code that will do this automatically instead of visually inspecting the streamlines in matlab, as I need a reproducible result and I have a lot of data to process. Currently, I'm investigating whether the value of the streamfunction over the domain provides any information I can use to find this value. Although I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas as a way to do this?
Thanks for any help in advance,
Kieran
