Re: FINITE VOLUME METHODS for NON-Orthogonal Grids

Why not very serious purposes?

I would like to develop well readable, good for general understanding code.

Peric's code have some shortcomings, and I would like to correct that.

Development of codes for serious research need optimization of code, calculations of operations such as "+" "-" "/" "*" and so on.

Re: FINITE VOLUME METHODS for NON-Orthogonal Grids

Everybody is trying to re-invent the wheel these days, writing one more CFD code.

I honostly don't see the point. Use something like FOAM to get you going. Its open source now and many hours were spend developing it.

But if your up to the challenge of writing a (another) new CFD code...good luck!

you can download the jask's phd thesis at :

http://www.h.jasak.dial.pipex.com/

it's the best of finite volume method for general mesh topology for beginner of corse.

Re: FINITE VOLUME METHODS for NON-Orthogonal Grids

Dear Noureddine

Thank You for You suggestion.

I also thought about OpenFOAM, and I already have and OpenFOAM manual and Hrvoje Jasak's PhD thesis.

But let's consider all "pro" and "contra":

"pro" (re-writing Peric's code):

1) I familar with FVM for incompressible flows since 1995 (then I first time took S.Patankar book to the hands)

2) I have some small experience with FVM on collocated structured grids, based on SIMPLE scheme. (over 4 years)

3)unfortunately I lost all my literature and code because of situation I was in, when I was forced to leave all in St.Petersburg and cross state border

4)thanks to God there are a lot of literature in the Internet (LIST of CFD courses and request for Peric's book are my work) and good friends who helped me.

5)next year I am going to apply for International Master Programme's in Turbulence. We should take into consideration that:

- all courses at Chalmers by prof. Lars Davidson devoted to SIMPLE scheme on colocated grids

- CALC-PVM (A parallel SIMPLEC Multiblock Solver for Turbulent Flow in Complex Domains) written in conception I work with.

- latest works, performed at the Division of Thermo and Fluid Dynamics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology are made using the same solver or its extention

6) So if I am going to work at XChalmers its better to work with this conception

-----------------------------------

"contra":

Sometimes it seems to me that work by Hrvoje Jasak is the next generation of methods for incompressible flows.

-------------------------------------------------------

May be Mr. Lars Davidson or someone from present students at IMP in Turbulence have something to add?
