all i am assuming is that i have a well managed code, that gives me options of chosing between coupled and segregated. for example i mostly use fluent, and this solver gives me both the options.

now i do not think that the people who wrote fluent are fool enough to store un-necessary zeros (the matrix aspect you are talkign about).

further i do have observed that lot of cases that i can run as segregated on my windows machine i can not run them as coupled solver. for example , using fluent, on a 3 gb ram windowsXP i can run a 3 million tet cells with segregated solver but the same mesh fluent fails to allocate memory with coupled solver. and this is practically checked. so in such cases i have only one choice to use segregated solver. because another option is to use coarser mesh and that i do not want to do. as i understand for those who use CFX they do not have choice, they only have coupled solver and hence they do not face this dilemma. (i may be wrong here, that is cfx may provide segregated solver, but people do not find a need to use).
