Lid Driven Cavity velocity profiles

In lid driven cavities, most papers and books seem to only look at the velocity profiles at the vertical and horizontal centerline, but what about the profiles near the edges. In the code I have for the lid driven cavity, I get the profiles seen at:
0.01L corresponds to a vertical cross section of the flow next to the left boundary. Physically, what causes the velocity to be negative in that small region near the moving lid?
I have run codes using primitive variable and vorticity-streamfunction and both codes show this behavior.
