Dears, I am trying to import geometry from CATIA into GridPro, but I meet some problems. What I did is exporting geometry from CATIA into stl format. Then using chFmt untilities changes stl into GridPro format. And reading the tmp file by surf -> load file, but all my geometry then become into one surface. It is not what I want. Actually I tried several days to import geometry from CATIA into GridPro, and I read all the manual and tutorial, but I have not find the solution about that. Please help me out! Thank you guys!

You can save your geometry into several stl files or split the one surface into different surfaces based on an angle in "minicad".

I use prostar to do the final preparations but thats probably not an option for you

Thanks, anyway! But, is this the only way to import external geometry into GridPro? For simple case, it is ok! How to deal if the geometry is very complicated?

best regards wang

There are many way to do this. But what is a "very complicated" geometry for you? An airplane or a car with all details (underhood and engine compartment)?

I can imagine if there are a few surfaces how to manage. But if there are many surfaces, does it take a long time to do that? Probably my question is silly, I do not have any experience about GridPro, just started use it for several days.

Is there any document to describe the detailed procedure to import geometry into Gridpro? I only find very limited information about this in the AZ manual and tutorial document.

Surface preparation often takes more than 80 percent of the total time for a real world cfd project.

Did you look at the options in "minicad" inside az ? There you can automatically split a big surface based on an angle definition.

Beilke, Thanks a lot! Actually, I just finished reading about Minicad in AZ manual.

I have to say GridPro is quite different with the program I used before, such as ICEM or Gambit. It takes time for me to get used to it. Also I am exciting about the ability of GridPro to produce high quality structured mesh. I like the way to create grid in GridPro. However, the discussion about GridPro in this forum is much less than I thought.

best regards wang

alimea is on a distinguished road
Hi
I'm beginer in GridPro.
I have imported a CAD file to GridPro and now I want to create a mesh. If I want to use mesh tool of gridPro, It creates a mesh only on surfaces, not on body(according to what I can see, maybe I'm wrong!)
If I want to make wire frame and create mesh such as the other projects, I can't convert the CAD file to topology file that GridPro can read it.

Help me plz!!

Thanks
