Need help on grid generation for AVBP

Hip is used for mesh generation for AVBP , can any other software also do that or is there any ohter way.

See the links here

What do you mean by AVBP ? Is Hip developed by J D Muller ? If yes then how can I obtain it ?

Yes, I mean Hip developed by J D Muller ? It is the standarded preprocessor for solver AVBP, and also there is some hints that there is interface between AVBP and other commerical software, such as ICEM-CFD, but I can not find the realted code or utilities, can you help me on this and it is best if you can also help me on the user manual or handbook of AVBP. Thanks

Hi, I am not quite sure if we are talking about the same code: The AVBP I know is being developed at CERFACS (www.cerfacs.fr) You may want get in touch with people there (like Thiery Poinsot or Yannick Sommerer ...).

Good luck, Alan

Yes , we are talking about the same code, and it is not a freeware now, so no help is replied from Thiery Poinsot or Yannick Sommerer, What can I do?

If you are struggling to use a research code then switch to using a commercial code or even a research code where the authors are prepared to work with you. Is this an option?

A few years ago I helped a researcher trying to use ICEM as input to AVBP and having trouble. If I recall correctly, ICEM was on a Windows machines and the problem revolved around binary/non-binary open statements. Whatever, writing an alterntive interface only took a few hours. Can you do this? You do have the source code for AVBP?

Thanks a lot! Yes, in the introduction of AVBP, a subroutine is used as the interface from ICEM to AVBP, but I did not found it and also I did not know the format of mesh data of ICEM, can you help me on it

Re: Need help on grid generation for AVBP

I spent several days reverse engineering ICEM binary files sent by a sponsor when our ICEM license had expired. I would not recommend doing this. ICEM is now owned by ANSYS and I would suggest asking them for the format.

Alternatively, get ICEM to produce another type of file. For example, at the time (a few years ago), FLUENT would happily provide information and a header file to support their file formats. They probably still do. The other CFD companies may well do likewise but I haven't needed to find out.

I do not have the few lines of code I wrote to help the person who was struggling with AVBP in pretty much the same way you are. I am fairly sure they switched to using another code for their study since AVBP was one of 2 or 3 codes none of which quite did what was wanted.

You are referring to the manual and not the source code. Do you have the source code? If not, I cannot see how you can implement a reader for whatever file format you decide to go with.

I should add that I have never used AVBP myself but used to work in group where some people did. However, they all worked with the people at CERFACS and they really are the ones you should talk to.

I have the source code, nut I did not have the usermanual, would you pleass recommand someone else who can give me some help on AVBP, Thanks a lot!

Re: Need help on grid generation for AVBP

You have the source code but none of the documentation. That is very strange. Are you sure you are permitted to use this code for whatever you want to do with it?

The only people to contact are CERFACS since it is their code and they arrange for other groups to use the code. If there was a need to use the code here as, say, part of an EC programme I am almost certain it would be granted but I would expect to get some agreement signed. I would suggest checking with whoever or wherever you got the code.
