.nas file for surface or volume meshes

Dear all,
Someone know if the ".nas" (NASTRAN) file is format file for - only surface meshes - only volume meshes - both but with some conditions ? Thanksfor your help |

nastran files can have description of surface mesh, volume mesh or both.
standard tria, quad, tetra, prism and hexa elements are supported, no pyramids. |

As already mentioned by Vangelis, Nastran can support both 2D or 3D meshes.
Could you specify your use case ? (softwares used) |
