Hi all,

I've found a possible bug when trying to sample along a line for a cyclicAMI case in parallel. When running the postProcessing function "singleGraph" (found under the etc/caseDicts/postProcessing/graphs/) an error appears regarding particle tracking despite not requesting this in the case files. I have checked this in a tutorial case that uses AMI too and the same error is present.

simply download the pipeCyclic tutorial and run the Allrun script - I have added the function to the system file and the following command to the end of the Allrun script:

mpirun -np 4 postProcess -func singleGraph -parallel

Once run the error output is:

"Particle tracking across AMI patches is only currently supported for cases where the AMI patches reside on a single processor"

I'm not sure whether to report this as an official bug yet so I thought I would post it here and see if anyone has any suggestions!

Hi Charlie,
I think that there is already a related bug report. Please, take a look on your own:

https://bugs.openfoam.org/view.php?id=2644 (maybe related too?)

Hi Rodrigo,

Thanks for the links - indeed these are the same errors that I am experiencing but they are trying to use particle tracking - In my case I am trying to extract data along a line. I would understand the error if the line was passing through the cyclicAMI interface but even when it doesn't the error persists.

I am not familiar with the way the sampling is implemented, but it seems that it makes use of lagrangian functions. Feel free to report it. At least the error message could be improved.

Hi, Charlie

I am experiencing the same thing when I want to sample data using singleGraph in a case using AMI. My sample is outside the AMI as well, like you mentioned.

Have you found a solution or a work around?

Kind regards,
Maria

I didn't find a solution in the end but I do have a work around if you are willing to use paraview for your post processing instead of the OpenFOAM functions. You can use paraview to extract data along uniform lines which can be done using pvpython scripts.
