Dear OpenFOAMers,
I have a rather basic question (I am new to OpenFOAM), that stems from this confusion over OpenFOAM-x.y.z and openfoam-extend. Does one need to build OpenFOAM-x.y.z, then download openfoam-extend (via git) into the $WM_PROJECT_USER_DIR/src/openfoam-extend (where $WM_PROJECT_USER_DIR corresponds to OpenFOAM-x.y.z), and then build openfoam-extend using wmake all?

Thanks in advance,
Chatur

akidess will become famous soon enough
OpenFOAM-extend is a stand-alone package, you do not require the ESi OpenFOAM release to use it.

Greetings Chatur and welcome to the forum!

They are separate projects. One doesn't need the other, although the one from the Extend Project derived from the official version.

You can easily have both installed in the same machine, as long you manage properly the shell environment. For more on this, here's a blog post I wrote sometime ago: Advanced tips for working with the OpenFOAM shell environment

Best regards,
Bruno
