I search on internet but I don't find the answer to my question:
for upgrade openFoam to 1.7 what I need to do...?

only download and install the new version or I need to do something with the old?

Greetings Fabio,

If you already have OpenFOAM 1.6.x installed, then it means you already have the necessary tools to build/install OpenFOAM 1.7.x or 1.7.1, whichever version you may want.

You can have more than one installation of OpenFOAM residing in your Linux box. Just follow the idea explained here: making Opt and Debug available with one command (post #2)
This way you can choose which version you want to use, every time you start a new terminal.

As for installing OpenFOAM 1.7.1 or 1.7.x, just follow the instructions at www.openfoam.com!

Just a quick amateur question. What are the differences between 1.6.x and 1.7.x? seems similar to me?

Robert, since you asked directly to me, I'll add to Elvis post:

• with 1.7.x you will have less bugs than 1.6.x;
• if you do find bugs, you'll be requested to try 1.7.x first;
• 1.7.x is a bit more nicely packaged and some solvers have merged into a single one. Others have been renamed/revamped.
• if you plan on using gcc 4.5.x, you are better off using OpenFOAM 1.7.1 or 1.7.x!
