I have been running some simulations of a Stefan problem. Basically two domains with a Laplace equation in each domain and a jump condition at the interface to include the (step) change in permeability. We solve a convection diffusion equation for concentration (C) in the inner region and advect the interface according to snGrad(C). The steady-state (more or less) finger shape at Pe = 50 (with the jump in perm = 10) is shown in C.jpg. There are 256^2 zones in this region - too many to show; coarser meshes develop artefacts before the steady state is reached.

Problem is the mesh is not very good; there are many non-orthogonal faces - see corner.jpg and tip.jpg. However, the max angle is still less than 80 deg. I make the mesh using blockMesh with a single block and the boundary defined with polyLine (OF2.3.0). I can see I might do better with foamyQuadMesh but before that I was wondering if anyone could suggest a better strategy for blockMesh.

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,
If have time (and patience) you could try this topology with 10 blocks.
Best Regards,
Paulo

Thanks for the suggestion. It is a bit or work and I think I will have to remesh as I go. I will let you you know if I have any success. But its clever how you keep the hex blocks - I did not see that.
