Aina is on a distinguished road
Dear all,

I am studying the OpenFoam tutorial located tutorials/incompressible/simpleFoam/windAroundBuildings

After running the tutorial, I execute the command:
simpleFoam -postProcess -latestTime -func yPlus

And I obtain:
yPlus yPlus write:
writing field yPlus
patch ground y+ : min = 3549.55, max = 498495, average = 61232.8
patch buildings y+ : min = 1395.73, max = 185195, average = 47150.8
End

So my question is about the y+ obtained using snappyHexMesh. Is the y+ correct for the buildings and the ground? I usually see that the correct range is 30<y+<300 for High turbulence models.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you
Best regards,
Aina

Yann will become famous soon enough
Helo Aina,

Most of the tutorials in OpenFOAM are meant to be light to run so the meshes are often very coarse. It is meant to demonstrate openFOAM capabilities with functional examples, but tutorials are not always physically correct.

You are correct about the typical y+ range. It's up to you to refine the mesh from the tutorial to get a more representative case.

Have fun!
