Hi everyone,

I have created a simple geometry and tried to import it into openfoam but when i do that using gmshtoFoam i get the following error

Code:
[aditya@localhost cavity_copy]$ gmshToFoam flatplate3.msh
gmshToFoam: error while loading shared libraries: libmpi.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Can someone please help me out with why this is happening?

Regards,
Aditya

Hi,

The error means, that after OpenFOAM compilation MPI libraries disappeared (were upgraded/removed). As your other questions were about installation on Fedora 19, and as this version of distribution is not maintained any more, the upgrade possibility seems to be improbable.

Do other OpenFOAM components (icoFoam for example) work as expected? Or do they also fail with the same error message?

Hi alex,

I did install openfoam again using the instructions found in this website. Openfoam is working properly now except the parallel run. i.e blockmesh, icofoam and paraview etc all of them work perfectly.

So does it mean that I can never use gmsh generated meshes for my OF?

Is there a way around this problem?

Regards,
Aditya

Hi,

I do not know, I have never used OpenFOAM with broken MPI installation.

Hi,

I dont understand why I always run into just the openmpi problem. I re-installed OF twice but still the problem persists. Any solution?

Regards

Hi,

I looked through your thread about installation on Fedora 19 and it seems I know the reason for the behavior. After you have said, you wish to use MPICH, wyldckat suggested you to uninstall OpenMPI and install MPICH (post #31). Then you have decided, you do not like MPICH and uninstall it (post #34). So I guess now you have OpenFOAM built with either system-wide installed OpenMPI, or system-wide installed MPICH, but you uninstalled both.

So you can either a) install OpenMPI/MPICH system-wide (using yum command), b) rebuild OpenFOAM with OpenMPI from ThirdParty folder.
