define porous zone in gambit

1 Attachment(s)
Hello FOAMers,

I want to simulate flow through and around porous media.
I created a mesh in block-mesh and blockmesh defines the porous zone in the cellZone-file.
Now I want to build the mesh with gamit and then export the mesh to OF.
But how can I define a porous zone with Gambit?
In the attached file you can see the channel with the porous block inside.
Has anyone an idea how to solve the problem?

thanks a lot, have a good day....
Michel

Hi I have the same problem! How did you solve it? Thanks Daniele

hi Micheal

had you resolved that problem?

in Gambit you have to isolate the volume which will be treated as porous.
For that, use split tool.
Once you volume is splitted, you can assign it as porous zone in the specify continuum types panel

Porous continuum in GAMBIT

Hi MAx,
I want to solve flow through porous medium problem. For this I need to create a porous continuum.I am currently working with GAMBIT 2.4.6,in which I found only fluid and solid continuum. Now how to create a porous continuum in GAMBIT 2.4.6? I have also seen the following link...

I still could not fix the problem. Please suggest me the correct path.

Define your porous zone as fluid in Gambit , (but separated as the default domain)
Once your mesh is imported in Fluent, define the fluid zone as porous-jump instead of interior

Porous continuum in GAMBIT

Hi Max,
Thanks for the reply.I have tried the method you suggested.I still have a problem in the procedure you mentioned.

I have defined the zone of porous medium as fluid in GAMBIT( I named it as "middle", with continuum as fluid in GAMBIT.).
When I transferred this to FLUENT, in boundary conditions panel, in the boundary conditions panel, a default interior 013 is shown (the mesh in that zone) also there is "middle" shown as fluid.
My question is:
Should I change this default interior 013 to "porous jump" or
should I change the zone of "middle" from fluid to porous?
Which is correct?

According to this tutorial: https://www.sharcnet.ca/Software/Flu...tg/node113.htm
I would say, you have to choose "middle"

Porous continuum in GAMBIT

Hi MAx,
Thanks a lot for the reply.I will implement this.
