In need of guidance to optimize snappyHexMeshDict for a rotor segment

Hello,

I am trying to make snappyHexMesh for the following rotor segment with the following patches:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/im59eo76bc...tches.png?dl=0
However, my current snappyHM setup:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ggjqomezqn...xMeshDict?dl=0
is not OK cause result mesh:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/1uotklsyxb...0mesh.png?dl=0
is not suitable for simulation.
How should I modify snappyHM setup to achieve smth like this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/b8ipmjgztx...0mesh.png?dl=0
ie I need more homogeneous mesh distribution especially at outlet and periodic faces.

Thank you for any help!

looks like blockMesh is important, especially for rotating geometry. I suppose that non-homogeneous mesh on radiused surfaces is because of quadratic blocks in blockMesh. I am wondering: is it possible to make blockMesh using cylinder (sector of cylinder) like this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fuo4wdq116gmgo2/Cyl1?dl=0 instead of quadratic block?

Hello ZanJa,

See the link below where they have split up the domain for application in turbines and diffusers (hybraulic machinery) using blockMesh.

http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/Si...nical_diffuser

See in particular section 1.6.

Note that they have used the utilty m4 to generate the blockMeshdict.

Good luck,

Daniel
