[snappyHexMesh] Practicing SnappyHexMesh

Hi everyone,

I try to learn how to mesh with SHM.
I started by reading the OpenFoam page and following this tutorial on You-tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObsFQUiVi1U .

Now I created a simple pipe (diameter 120mm, length 500mm) and want to mesh it. After creating a blockMesh (size (-0.1 -0.1 -0.1) (0.1 0.1 0.6)), scaling the pipe to meter and running surfaceFeatureExtract, I always receive an error message saying the following:

--> FOAM FATAL ERROR: Point (0 0.05 0) is not inside the mesh or on a face or edge.Bounding box of the mesh:(-0.1 -0.1 -0.1) (0.1 0.1 0.6)
I already used google to find an answer, but I can't find one.
I have a guess but would like to hear a second opinion to it. As I was lazy (or efficient ) I did not split up my stl files into several stls (Inlet, Outlet, Wall...) just one thing called "cylinder". Is this maybe the reason why it crashes?

Hi there;

I sometimes have this problem and as it says it could be that your dimensions are different.

I generally use "surfaceCheck" utility to know and reassure i am on the right track. The other way is that you can copy your .stl and normal hex to paraview and view it parallel by reducing the opacity.

The other easy and lazy one you can do {else i generally do in blender} is that i shift the entire domain to the origin. So, it becomes really easy to work with for the creation of mesh domain and so on...

So, you definitely know what and where are your domains.

Hi Saideep,

thanks for your answer. The hints and tricks you gave are great, but the problem was much easier
I did not stick to the order of vertices in blockMesh - of course it can't work than.
