local refinement of cartesian grids

is it possible to create a local refinement for cartisan grids e.g. in blockMeshDict or any other utility?
Can openFoam handle the interpolation of the numerical fluxes from the large cells to the small ones.
My basic idea is to replace the unstructured part in the mesh which is used to simulate the flow over a cavity, by refined cartesian cells. Due to the y+ condition for wall functions I need that huge cell adjacent to the wall and I don't whant that it runs through the whole domain.
Any advise apprechiated!
