[snappyHexMesh] Does snappyHexMesh read the named selections in a geometry?

Hello,
I exported my geometry from SpaceClaim with .obj format and made some named selections on SpaceClaim. I was asking if snappyHexMesh will be able to read them and make them patches? If not, how can I define the patch using named selection and still snappyHexMesh reads it and recognize it as a patch? Thank you!

Hi,

Snappy reads named surfaces from STL or OBJ files and use these names during patch creation.

But some CAD softwares do not preserve names when exporting a geometry to STL or OBJ formats.

If your OBJ is written in ASCII, you can open it in a text editor and see if you can find the names you defined in SpaceClaim in the OBJ. You can also use the surfaceCheck utility in OpenFOAM, it should give you regions names if it exist in the file.

thank you so much. I checked it and yes the named selections are copied as patches after running snappyHexMesh.
