Question about mesh definition (faces, wall etc.)
 
Hello, I am new in the OpenFOAM community and a have some questions about the meshing.

I use a third party software (SALOME) to develop a 3D model and to mesh it. To start, I am doing something very easy : a nozzle, or if you prefer, a pipe whose inner diameter is smaller at the output.

So, I made the 3D model, which is a pipe with a constant outer diameter c and an inner diameter which decreases from a to b. As far as I understood, I have the create two faces of diameter a and b at the pipe input and output, respectively. Is that correct?

Then, from what I understood, the wall has to be define. In my case, is it the whole pipe without the two faces?

To be honest, I'm really confuse with this...

my understanding is that you only want to simulate the flow inside the pipe and are not interested in doing anything with the actual pipe itself. Am i correct?

If that's the case, when you create the model in salome, you should only create the fluid volume, which consists of the inlet face (diameter a), outlet face (diameter b), and the wall (diameter varies from a to b). After you have created the 3D model of the fluid volume, you create geometry groups to divide them into patches so you can apply boundary conditions on them and mesh them. You can find the detail in salome documentation. Once you have everything set up, export it as .unv file and use ideasUnvToFoam to convert that to OpenFOAM mesh.
