Hi all,
I am new to the concept of moving meshes. I would like to simulate flow in a lobe supercharger with two lobes. I am unable to understand how to approach the problem of mesh deformation when the lobes rotate. I have found one thesis explaining gear pumps at this thread - http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...gear-pump.html But the process involves remeshing which will take up huge processing power. My question is, is there any way other than remeshing at intervals to solve the problem? Or is it possible to remesh only a part of the deformed mesh? |

Hi vishal,
I'm doing a similar problem, lobe pump used in food industries. I was wondering do you got any success in remeshing technique given in gear pump thesis? I'm not able to get this Dynamic mesh routine of Openfoam? I'll be a great if give me some thread. Regards, Neelesh |

I have yet to simulate and test the procedure given in the gear pump thesis. If you do not have constraints on cost of processing then you can try to replicate the procedure in the gear pump thesis. I am trying to find out how ANSYS CFX is performing the deforming mesh simulation for a lobe compressor and whether it is deforming the mesh in the first place. I think ANSYS CFX is using immersed boundary method which is currently not available in OpenFOAM but is available in OpenFOAM extended. I am not able to understand the process of immersed boundary method explained in some OpenFOAM workshop. If immersed boundary is possible in OpenFOAM then the problem of remeshing is completely eliminated. |
