simFlow 1.0 has been released

We are proud to annouce that an official version of simFlow 1.0 has been released. The most recent version offers multiple improvements over the beta version. The most worth of noting options include:

- geometry manipulation tools
- advanced mesh manipulation options
- parametric case creation
- use of case file templates
- 21 solvers for fluid flows and heat transfer

Furthermore, simFlow 1.0 introduces modern, dynamic user interface that facilitates user-software interaction. Everyone is invited to download the evaluation version of simFlow from our website www.sim-flow.com. We would appreciate your feedback and comments.

You can find out more about simFlow watching video demonstrations:

Hi simFLOW team,

It really looks a very helpfull tool for setup and and debug.
Do you have the Snappy HexMesh feature available on your code, or only blockmesh?
The new noise analysis utility is already implemented (OF 2.2.1)?

What are the main differences in terms of solvers beteen among the three different versions? What are the main differences between OF 2.2.1 on your tool?

Thanks!

AnetaC September 22, 2013 07:53

cfdivan,

snappyHexMesh has been implemented in simFlow. If you want to see how the 'Mesh' panel looks in simFlow, please take a look at images 2 and 3 under "Video demonstrations & screenshots" section on http://www.sim-flow.com . You can also see how it works by watching this video: http://youtu.be/nXpbcs6IOcc between 00:29 - 06:29.

The new noise analysis utility is not available yet. When it comes to differences in terms of solvers between versions, there are no significant differences, except compressibleInterFoam solver, which is not available when using OpenFOAM versions 2.2.0 and 2.2.1.

eval license still works?

Hi,

I am wondering whether the evaluation license is still available. I was able to download the eval version. The installation seemed to be successful. But, I am not able to run sim-Flow - frozen at the splash screen.

Pei-Ying Hsieh,

Could you please provide us with more detailed information about your operating system? Do you want to use simFlow for Windows or Linux?
If you installed simFlow for Linux, please update your graphic card drivers and GLX version. GLX version 1.3 or higher is required.

Hi, Aneta,

I installed simFlow on a Windows 7 enterprise edition, 64 bit OS.

The graphics card is nVidia Quadro K5000. I will install the latest driver from nVidia to see if it fixes the issue.

Thanks!

I have the same problem....frozen at splash screen on Win7 x64. I have an ACER 5738G

AnetaC October 31, 2013 06:35

Atze,
We had tested simFlow using various operating systems before we released the software and it worked correctly. We have tested simFlow on different computers with Windows 7 Enterprise again. It seems that on all of them simFlow works correctly.

We suppose that your problem requires one of the following actions to be fixed:

1. update graphics card drivers
2. switch firewall/antivirus/Windows firewalls off
3. if Windows asked you about permissions/access to simFlow executable file, you should have given required permissions

We would like to note that your operating system should be updated, so maybe you need to download new updates from Microsoft. Please try the above three possible solutions and let us know about the results.

Hi AnetaC,

Unfortunatly, in spite of any upgrade, It still doesn't work. Which are the minimum requirements for the software?

Thanks

User defined solver

Hi Aneta,
I recently downloaded and installed simFlow, and saw there are three solvers that I don't know what can they do. They are:
tempIcoFoam
tempPimpleFoam
tempSimpleFoam

I would like to know what are the capabilities of these user defined solvers.
Thanks!

AnetaC November 11, 2013 18:42

RTom,

The solvers you mentioned are extensions of standard OpenFOAM solvers: icoFoam, simpleFoam and pisoFoam. They are incompressible solvers with an additional passive scalar equation 'T'.
Using simFlow you can create user interface adapted for a non-standard solver (User Defined Solver, UDS). tempIcoFoam, tempPimpleFoam and tempSimpleFoam are examples of such solvers. These solvers are shown in your simFlow, because there are three files in the directory “<HOME>/.simflow/solvers", which describe user interface design for them.

If you have any question concerning UDS, please do not hesitate to ask a question on our Q&A forum.

Best regards,
Aneta
