Mass flow rate with Paraview 330
Hi,
I would like to know how to calculate mass flow rate through boundary patches with Paraview 3.3.0. I used to work with Paraview 2.4 and I obtained mass flow rate by using two different methods: 1. Filter "Extract Parts" + filter "Calculator" + filter "Surface Flow" 2. Using "Ucomponents" + filter "Extract Parts" + filter "Calculator" + filter "Integrate attributes" The problem comes when I try to apply these procedures with the new Paraview. "Surface flow" doesn't seem to be active in the filter menu and any time I try to use "Ucomponents" with OpenFOAM 1.5 it says "command not found". Can anybody help me? Thank you very much Marta |
Hi Marta,

Hi Marta,
Have a look at my post on May 16, 2008 [1]. It should work regardless of which reader you are using (vtkPOpenFOAMReader or PV3FoamReader). If you make frequent use of the filter, another way might be to try the latest CVS head of ParaView or wait a bit for the upcoming 3.4 release. Surface Flow in those versions should run straight from the reader output. [1] http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...tml#post190269 post #61 Takuya |
Hi Takuya,
Thanks for your
Hi Takuya,
Thanks for your reply. I read your post, but eventhough I could run "Surface Flow" properly, the results, as you said, aren't that accurate. Regarding "calcMassFlow", as far as I know it's thought to be used with incompressible flow and since I'm working with cavitation I'm afraid it's not an option. Anyway, I think I've solved the problem. There is an utility, "foamCalc components U", which is equivalent to former "Ucomponents", so that it's possible to calculate mass flow rate in paraview 3.3 with the previously described method 2 (which I think is much better in terms of accuracy).
