Hello,

I've been trying to set up that, but so far I didn't get Xvnc to work with GLX support. I tried to use PV locally with vesa driver and it works...
Well, if there is someone who has done that, I'd appreciate some information!

Hi again :-)!

Any reason why you would want to use VNC rather than ssh with X-forwarding enabled?

I use ssh with X-forwarding quite often to run Paraview which is located on a Linux machine from other linux and windows machines via the ethernet.

Apparently Xvnc is not compiled with GLX support enabled, though the latest version available from the Fedora repositories which are based on XOrg 7.1 have the extensions enabled.

There is a wiki site:

http://gentoo-wiki.com/VNC

which talks about xf4vnc, which has GLX support.

Well, simply something went wrong with ssh and I was thinking that ssh would consume CPU time too much. But maybe it's not that bad?

If ssh is used, on which machine rendering happens? Does X has to be running on server?

Strange,
just did ssh forwarding (doesn't look as good as with VNC though), but when try paraview, again these errors:

Xlib: extension "SHAPE" missing on display "localhost:11.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display "localhost:11.0".

client's X server has GLX module loaded (can run glxgears)...

And here I go again: I found, that I must log in like this:

ssh server -Y

and it works!

Also when made a decision to use vnc, I was hoping to use faster 3D rendering some day when switch from vesa driver. Now my old laptop doesn't seam to be very fast... Whatever reason, just rotating cavity.foam takes 70% cpu on IBM T42 with radeon 7500, 1.7 p-m.

But thanks to Philippose anyway!
